Howard Myers

Howard Myers, of Mount Laurel, New Jersey, passed away on March 15, 2023.
Howard was the firstborn child for Lewis, a grocery store owner, and Esther Myers, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Three siblings followed: his sister, Sandra, and his two brothers, Joel and Marshall. Howard attended the University of Pennsylvania and then later the Chicago Medical School. While in the Chicago area, Howard met the love of his life Zara, in 1962, and they got married in 1963. Howard later became a psychiatrist, maintaining a practice in Mount Laurel, New Jersey, until his retirement in 1996. Prior to becoming a psychiatrist, Howard served in the U.S. Navy as a Lt. Commander and ship doctor who was stationed in many locations, of which the longest stay took place in Rota, Spain, from 1966-1969. After leaving the Navy and briefly moving back to Philadelphia, Howard moved his family, which now contained three sons, Lewis, Cory, and Frank, and then later, a daughter, Jody, to Willingboro, New Jersey, where they resided from 1970-1986. In 1986, Howard, Zara, and their daughter, Jody, moved to Cherry Hill, New Jersey, where Howard and Zara lived from 1986-2020 before moving to their current home in Mount Laurel.
Howard was always an upbeat, jovial man who enjoyed puns and other corny “Dad jokes.” Howard enjoyed taking his family on vacations, especially the town of Beach Haven in Long Beach Island, New Jersey. He was always there for his family whenever and wherever he was needed, whether it was to help one of his children move to a new apartment, to assist with a broken down car, or to attend a recital or sporting event in which one of his children was participating. Howard’s favorite activities included cooking, baking, playing gin rummy and fishing.
Howard is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Zara; his children Lewis, Cory (Rachelle), Frank (Caryn), and Jody (Daniel); and his brothers, Joel (Diana) and Marshall (Lynda). He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Shoshana (Yoel), Emily, Aaron, Joshua, Rina Leah, Hannah, and Julia; one step-grandchild, Michael; one great-granddaughter, Devorah, and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Howard was predeceased by his parents, Lewis Myers and Esther (Backhaut) Myers Finkel, and his sister, Sandra (Alan) McLean.
Graveside funeral services were held at Har Jehuda Cemetery, Upper Darby, PA. Shiva will follow at Congregation Beth Tikvah, Marlton, NJ.
