Dorothy A. Resnick - Long Time Haddonfield Resident and Educator

Dorothy A. Resnick, 86, a long time Haddonfield, NJ, resident and a significant contributor to education in the school system over two decades, passed away at her home with her husband, Saul, by her side on May 24.

With great pride and joy, Dorothy raised two families over five decades, and in addition to her work in the Haddonfield school system, contributed through numerous volunteer efforts in all of the communities in which she lived. She was the ultimate giver of time and effort to others daily in a celebrated lifetime.

In addition to her husband Saul, Dorothy is survived by their son, Samuel David (Jody) and their son, William Saul Resnick; by Dorothy's daughter, Susan Lockhead (James), and their daughters Sarah and Caitlin, and Caitlin's daughter, Violet Witiak; and by Dorothy's son, Scot Stearns (Staci), his son, Nicholas, and their additional children, Cara, Joseph, James, Carl, and Kati Earwicker. Dorothy is also survived by her brother, Richard (Ellie) and her sister-in-law, Judy Hosmer.

Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, Clifton and Marion Hosmer, of Worcester, Mass, and by her brother, David, as well as her ex-husband, Malcolm Stearns.

Dorothy was born in Worcester, Mass., March 19, 1935. She earned an Associate in Science degree from Worcester Junior College in 1955, and an education degree (with honors) from Glassboro State College in 1971.

Dorothy served at the Elizabeth Haddon school in Haddonfield as a computer specialist/educational assistant from 1992-1994, and then as educational assistant in the library from 1994 until 2013, when she retired. She was notable for her memory, recognizing each of 350 students by their first names each school year, and knowing their favorite books and subjects, and helping numerous teachers with their needs, while assisting two librarians, Toni Weber and Jane Babcock. Dorothy was a former member of the Haddonfield Lions Club, and contributed to a number of charities and community service activities over her life.

In her last three years, Dorothy was struck with Parkinson's disease. Her husband, Saul, said: "Dorothy was my hero for her personal battle with the disease. She fought it with every fiber of her being, never giving in, never giving up, and along the way demonstrated the kind of vigor and courage which was a template all of us would wish to have. She was my partner, best friend, and the love of my life for over four decades."

A "celebration of life" service will be held for Dorothy and her family and friends in July or August, place, date and time to be determined.
