Charles Abraham Glantzow was born May 1, 1927 in Philadelphia, Pa. As a teen, he was an active member of the Boy Scouts and a graduate of West Phila High. He would regale his children with tales of his love of Science - their favorite being the time he blew up his mother’s basement during a home experiment gone awry. A veteran of WWII, he served in Germany as a trained cryptographer in the Intelligence Section. While in Germany, he also attended Army Constabulary School for Geopolitics. Upon returning home, Charles worked in production and purchasing for multiple manufacturers in the Apparel Industry until his retirement in 1986. Charles was an avid philatelist who specialized in Switzerland and Early Flight covers. He was a member of the American Philatelic Society and a Life Member of the Merchantville Stamp Club for 53 years, where he also served a stint as Vice President. In his own words, Charles “found contentment in retirement as a philatelist, oenophile and inveterate traveler. At 93, he was still driving, shopping, and living on his own.
Charles was lovingly married for 57 years to his departed wife, Rena (Klein). They enjoyed traveling the world together and raising their 3 children; Samuel Glantzow, Phyllis (Ramon) Granados and Carole (Norman) Zboray. Charles is also survived by his grandsons, John and Daniel Granados.
