Ben Lipitz



On April 18, 2023, Ben Lipitz, age 58, passed away peacefully after a long battle with complications from cancer. Ben was a Broadway actor who performed in television and film but he was most notably known for two decades as the lovable warthog Pumbaa in Disney’s The Lion King in the Broadway Touring company. He was an activist and fundraising producer for Broadway Cares Equity Fights AIDS and the JCC Open Hearts/Open Doors special needs program. He attended California Institute of the Arts. Ben was born in Toms River NJ and graduated from Cherry Hill West.


Ben was a loving and caring father and husband. He is survived by his wife Rosalie and his children Matthew and Mikaela; brother Dr. Mark Lipitz (wife Carol) and nieces Nicole and Sarah; sister-in-law Barbara Folts (husband Peter Parrella) and niece Ava; and many cousins and friends. Ben was a loving son to his late father Leonard Lipitz and his mother Marilyn Lipitz, as well as a loving brother to his late sister Meryl Lipitz.

Relatives and friends are invited Sunday, April 23, 2023 beginning at 10:15 am to PLATT MEMORIAL CHAPELS, Inc., 2001 Berlin Road, Cherry Hill, NJ 08003 where Funeral Services will begin promptly at 11:00 am. Entombment will follow at Locustwood Memorial Park, Cherry Hill, NJ.
