Richard Fox


January 16, 1954 - March 19, 2019

Richard Fox, 65, Philadelphia venture capitalist, passed peacefully and surrounded by loved ones on March 19, 2019. He was born January 16, 1954 in Gloversville, New York to Mitchell and Beatrice Fox. His father, a graduate of The University of Pennsylvania Wharton School, owned Frankel’s, which burned down in a fire with 5 other stores in 1967. His mother, a student of the Curtis Institute and The Juilliard School, was a classically trained concert violinist who played in several prominent orchestras in Philadelphia. At 9 years old, Richard memorized John F. Kennedy’s inaugural address and delivered it in front of the 1964 New York Democratic State Convention as well as numerous organizations and school visits. After completing his undergraduate at University of Connecticut, he went on to receive his Masters in 1980 from Georgetown University.

He quickly rose through the ranks at Chemical Bank (now JPMorgan Chase) and PNC, followed by a senior leadership position at Penn Janney Advisory, a subsidiary of Penn Mutual Life Insurance. He was a Managing Director of Cross Atlantic Capital Partners from 1999 to 2013, where he worked very closely with entrepreneurs in a wide variety of industries and served as a director on the board of numerous companies, Including Scottsdale-based Vixxo and Boston-based Interactions. Richard most recently served as President & CEO of mClinical Technology Inc.

Well-known for his intellect and integrity, Richard spent the last 30 plus years as an adjunct professor at New York University. He also served on the board and the executive committee of the Philadelphia-Israel Chamber of Commerce. In recent years, he co-authored a screenplay about Ze’ev Jabotinsky, who formed an all-Jewish military force that came together to fight for the creation of Israel.

To those closest to him, Richard was known as an honest man, confident, and full of love. His zest for life was accented with passion for music and sports. He dedicated his free time to discovering his roots by tracing his family lineage. Richard was preceded in death by his brother Charles Fox and his sister, Claire Fox-Jarroff. He is survived by his wife Susan Fox (Cherry Hill, New Jersey), his daughter Rachel and her two daughters Cecilia and Charli (New York City), his son Danny (Los Angeles), his sister Debra Fox (Breckenridge, CO), his sister Bari Barbee (Santa Cruz, California) and numerous extended family members.
