Martin Tuman

March 22, 1929 - June 4, 2018

 

On June 4, 2018, formerly of Bayonne and Columbus, NJ passed away peacefully at the age of 89, in Marlton, New Jersey.

 

Martin is survived by his wife and companion of 65 years, Isabel (Leslie), their 5 children Sherry (Larry) Delsen, Barry (the late Denise) Tuman, Francine (Thomas) Andrea, Elaine Gill (Tom Griscom), and Michael (Kelly) Tuman. Survived by his sister Myrna (Phil) Bolstein. He was a proud grandfather of 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

 

Martin dedicated his career to the legal profession, first serving as an Assistant U.S. District Attorney of the State of NJ under Robert Kennedy, followed by: counsel to the Bayonne Parking Authority, sitting on the Matrimonial Settlement Panel for Hudson County, and Acting Magistrate for Bayonne, all while maintaining a successful law practice.

 

For 50 years Martin was a dedicated member of the Boy Scouts of America serving in a number of capacities.  He was honored to receive their highest award, “The Silver Beaver Award”. As a member of the Knights of Pythias, he was elected Chancellor Commander of  Arion Hudson Lodge of Bayonne, Grand Chancellor for the State of NJ and as the Knights of Pythias Deputy Supreme Chancellor.  He was a recipient of“The Knight of the Golden Spur” award. Martin was diversified. He served on the Board of the Jewish Community Center of Bayonne and as President of Congregation Temple Emanu-El. For his charitable and timeless efforts he received the National Conference of Christian and Jews “Medallion” for community service.  In his later years he was very proud of watching as his children and grandchildren continued the family involvement in charitable organizations.

 

A private graveside ceremony will be held for the family. Shiva will be held on Thursday and Monday evenings at the Andrea home in Bridgewater, NJ and Sunday beginning early evening at the home of Barry Tuman in Shamong, NJ.
